GIVEAWAY WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

Mike and I have spent the past few hours getting the winners for the 2 giveaways I posted earlier in the week. We used Random.org to generate the winner of the Domesticated Betty giveaway, and he read all of the 2009/2010 entries aloud to me [while withholding the names of the contestants as to not show favoritism]. It was a long, tedious process but I'm happy to announce the winners! Please email me asap at kaelahbee (at) gmail (dot) com with your mailing address and info so I can ship them tomorrow!

the winner of the Domesticated Betty giveaway is:

the winner of the 2009/2010 resolution giveaway is:
COURTNEYTM!

Both Mike and I were very moved by Courtney's resolution and memory. We felt the sincerity through what she wrote and we came to the unanimous decision that she wins. There were tons of awesome entries and several of them caught our eyes. We wish you all the best of luck with your new year and new resolutions!

Courtney's post was as follows:
my new years resolution is to be a better mother. now while i dont think im a horrible mother but there is always need for improvement. im a single mom and i sometimes let my son see me cry over some things that i should be stronger about. even though he is my best friend and i only want a hug from him whenever i am crying, i dont want him to see me weak, only strong. his father is not around, i am the only one he has, and he needs to see me at my best. so no more crying, or getting upset around him. only postive thoughts and more going to educational places around my city.

and my favorite memory of 2009 is finally getting my ged, i dropped out cause i was pregnant and had my son when i was 18, now that i am 23 i finally got it, i feel so much better. i mean i just kept putting it off and now im going to college and i just feel so much better about myself.

Thanks to everyone who entered!

Questions Answered: Round Four!

Haven't answered any questions from the FormSpring in a while so here you go! Feel free to ask me anything by clicking HERE! (It's anonymous!)

Round Four
Read Rounds One, Two, and Three if you'd like!

1.) I was wondering if you could do a break down, or even better a hair tutorial with pictures, of your well hair lol. I fancy it quite a bit and was wondering how you go about styling it.
I've posted a video on YouTube (see: HERE). Granted it's a year old, if not more, but it's fairly straight forward. I have extensions but you can do the very same thing with your OWN hair if you don't, simply by turning the heat down to low on both things :) If you would like a more in-depth tutorial, just let me know and I'll try to re-record one! :D Thank you, by the way!

2.) I've seen your videos on youtube on how to do your hair, and seeing as how your hair is curled on the bottom, and more wavy on the top, I was just wondering how you style it wavy like that, and also wondering if you tease it (back comb) it as well?
The honest truth with that is my extensions don't get slept in, etc, so they retain the curl quite a bit better than my real hair does, seeing as i throw it up in a pony tail or bun and sleep with it every night. This wears the curls out a bit more so the tops tends to be wavier than the bottom. A good trick to attain this is to curl both the top and bottom of your hair (provided you don't have extensions). Don't curl the top part as tightly as the bottom. Spray the bottom part with a hefty amount of hairspray (you'll notice i'm a big fan of hairspray!). Comb out the top part with your hands just slightly (not so that it becomes afro-ish). Then re-curl the bottom a little bit more and that should do the trick! :)

As for the second part of your question, sometimes I tease it a bit, and sometimes I don't. I only wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week, and then I use Dry Shampoo in-between. IF i DO tease it, i do it in layers/sections laterally. But typically my hair just looks like a big birds nest because i load on the hairspray and hope for the best :P If you'd like a more detailed tutorial (like the person above), feel free to let me know and I'd be happy to do so!

3.) If you were to, God forbid, die suddenly and you had time to listen to one last song..what would the song be and why?

Oh goodness, thats an interesting question! Hmm… I'd probably listen to Gotta Have You by The Weepies simply based on the fact that I have OH SO MANY memories associated with that song. It means a lot to me for several very different reasons and I can honestly say that I'd go with that one. :) What song would YOU listen to?

4.) How important are guys to you? This is something that has bothered me my whole life. Watching girls who HAVE to have a man in their life to be happy. My friends date jerks just to say they have a boyfriend, like that title is more important than the actual person. It seems like boys are consistent in your life. Do you feel a need to have them? This is a judgment free question, I just want to know that someone my age can be in a relationship and not just have a "boyfriend" for the sake of having a "boyfriend", ya know? Also explain what having a boyfriend means to you.
Brilliant Question! And one that i will answer with ABSOLUTE HONESTY. I always grew up being very very independent, thanks to my mother. It was strictly she and I so she taught me how to be a very stable, successful, independent woman. I didn't really start having "boyfriends" until I was 15. I dated a few guys but nothing was ever serious really, with the exception of Jamie when I was 16/17. Most lasted roughly 3 months (because I have always had a SERIOUS relationship complex). I never felt like I NEEDED a boyfriend at that point in my life, but they were always somewhat present. I moved off to Franklin for college and I dated randomly, though nothing serious really, until Adam. Adam came around and it was 3 years basically, but while we were broken up I was pretty devastated for a while (granted it was ultimately my own doing, but it still sucked). I started to learn what it was like to be single again and I was LOOVVVVINGGG IT. I could date randomly, but never "exclusively" really. Adam was always in and out of my life during those 11 months. I never felt anything significant for anyone but towards the end of it I started feeling more and more dependent on having a boy in my life. Maybe it was boredom, maybe it was a little bit of heartache that carried over, Who knows. But for a month or two I found myself telling my best friend Bryan "I need a boyfriend." "I need a boyfriend, help me find a boyfriend. I need a boy." How awful! Then i'd be casually "talk" to a few guys and even though several of them wanted an actual full-fledged relationship to evolve from it, I never really did. I enjoyed being a single girl, and maybe I just liked the attention. Granted I never talked to someone I wasn't genuinely interested in, but at that point in my life, I couldn't see myself with that person long-term. And I don't get involved in a real relationship unless I see something lasting. Thats just my style. No sense in getting all emotionally attached to someone just to break up down the road. Right now my education, my career and MY future is the most important thing to me. Regardless of who is with me on that journey, I know thats something I NEED TO DO FOR MYSELF, you know? Then Adam came back around and I realized that I agreed to continue that relationship, if you could call it on, simply based on the fact that I THOUGHT I needed him… when I didn't. His absence and return somehow made me forget the immense amount of independence that my mother had instilled in me. This was a wake up call. I ended things with him immediately and I was incredibly satisfied with my decision to do so. I continued to talk to boys and all that jazz, but I had neither intention, nor desire, to procure a relationship with anyone at that point. I know that I'll be moving back to NYC in may, then Nashville in August, and then back to NYC soon thereafter, so starting a relationship from scratch would not be a smart decision. However, Mike came back into the picture and everything fell into place. I had NO intention of dating him again (not for lack of interest, simply because of what i've stated prior… i didn't feel like it'd be smart). but the chemistry and the connection was undeniable. Something about it felt SO incredibly right, and I couldn't walk away from that again. We have been given a second chance at this and it's not something I take lightly. They always say if it's meant to be, it will be. And now it is just that.

For me, dating can be casual, but when I call someone my "boyfriend", its because I have every intention on seeing it out to it's finish… whatever that may be. But in my mind, a boyfriend is someone I can see myself being with for a very long time. I talk and date guys to get a feel for what they are like, what their priorities are, and where they see themselves in the future. A boyfriend is so much more. I can honestly say that I've woken up to my misty haze of my co-dependency and i'm happy with the direction things are going in now. Wow, sorry that was SO drawn out, but it really do strike a chord with me because I always thought I was too strong to ever feel like i NEEDED a boy… but i've definitely fallen victim to that. Luckily I have since woken up. :) hope that makes sense!

Sunday Funday!

Another Sunday Funday almost down the hatch. Mike and I are sitting at Panera down on Columbia Avenue. We came so we could get some yummy Black Bean Soup (Vegan Mediterranean Sandwich for him!), so I could blog, and so I could listen to Love & Sequins #7 by the lovely Gala Darling (which I'm currently doing) as it's been sitting in my inbox for a few weeks now. I spent New Years Day just hanging out with Mike and we slept in until 2pm (holy cannoli!). Afterwards we came to Panera so I could reply to emails and blog and yadda yadda yadda (see a pattern?). We stayed for a couple hours and then headed over to the mall so I could buy the American Rag dress I really liked a few weeks ago. We managed to pop into a few stores before they closed at 6pm and here is what I walked away with:

American Rag dress: Macy's $45

Quilted Pink & Black Bow Clutch (with a chain strap!): For Love 21 $18

White Acrylic Bow Ring: For Love 21 $4? $5? idk.

Peachy Pink Satin Bow Headband: For Love 21 $6?

This is also what I wore to work Saturday night (sans pink headband).

Outfit Details:
Black Ruffle Shirt: Forever 21 $25
Grey Cardigan: Wet Seal $20
Jeans: Charlotte Russe $30
Charm Bracelet: Juicy Couture $investment (haha, see what i did there?) :P

Work on Saturday night was HORRIBLE! when I say horrible, I mean i sat on my iPhone all night, playing 6 different games of Scrabble (or Words With Friends, sorry!) simultaneously. The bar was SO SO SO dead. I'm not even sure why we were open. I made less than 1/4 of what I did the night before. Luckily I was cut a little early (first time in history!) so I was able to high tail it home and crawl into bed.

(Mike is a little butthurt that I crushed him ;P but I'll admit... my fantastic friend Merissa definitely ANNIHILATED me yesterday! she's WAY too good at this game!)

We woke up on Sunday and tried to drag ourselves out of bed. My allergies were ridiculous! I woke up with an awful headache and it didn't get better through the day. We called Super Target in Spring Hill looking for the Flip Cam Mino HD 8GB and luckily THEY HAD ONE! We got ready and headed south and picked up our new favorite toy. We went to several more stores while waiting on my parents to get into town. We met them at Lowe's (they're in the process of remodeling their house so they LOVE Lowe's) and after that rendezvous, all 4 of us went to eat at Olive Garden. The fact that he's vegan and his diet is "limited" is definitely starting to wear on Mike, but I'm proud to say he's doing fantastic! I'm very very proud of him!

After that, we headed back home and I started feeling sicker and sicker. We laid in bed, watched 2 episodes of Felicity, played endless games on our iPhones and finally drug ourselves out at 6pm to go sell a phone of his he posted on CraigsList. On our way back home I was feeling feverish, had a migraine, felt nauseous, etc etc, so I called Angie (the other bartender at work) and asked her if Kim could fill my spot. Luckily the bar was dead (yet again!) so she said I could just call out and I wasn't even needed so it was okay. So luckily I got to rest, feel better, etc, and not lose TOO much money. Mike and I went to his house in West Nashville for a quick trip to ensure that his water pipes hadn't frozen. We went to Kroger afterwards and got stuff for dinner and we cooked vegan pancakes at 11pm. They were yummy so I'll post the recipe soon!

Today we woke up and headed over here, researched programs at schools in NYC for him (how exciting! He's planning on making the big move with me next year when I permanently relocate to NYC!), we planned out how we're going to go about this, what we need to do, etc etc etc! It's an inspiring thing to think/talk about because it's my future! Hunter College is looking like it's going to be the winning institution so keep your fingers crossed for us!

This is my silly "Mad Hatter" outfit (so says my friend, Brandon). Most of these pieces are a few years old but whatever.

Outfit Details:
Dress: Charlotte Russe (3 years old) $30
Cardigan: Forever 21 $25
Tights: (I'm wearing 2 pairs! It's cold!) WalMart $10
Flats: Walmart $9
Knit Beret: Forever 21 $12
Scarf as Bow: Forever 21 $8

Phew! Bout time I finished this colossal post! If you have Words With Friends on your iPhone, challenge Mike or Myself! (We're both not great but whatever! It's fun!)

Things I Love Thursday [FRIDAY version]!

i just feel that it's necessary to tell you up front how much i love the following photos. most don't even need an explaination. but i'll explain if i feel it requires haha

(click on each picture to view it full size if you can't read it)

sorry if this is slightly inappropriate. but i LOVE sharks, obviously. and it was just funny. okay!

this may or may not be true. i'd like to think that it's very accurate ;)

happy birthday, sad cat. i love you.

quite possibly one of the best pictures ive ever seen ever. my love for SHARKS AND SUPER MARIO?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?! LOVE!

love this memorial for MJ.

found these awesome food cupcakes courtesy of Lindsey's blog.

a smores keyboard! i don't eat anything here but this is still insanely epic!

this reminds me of mike and myself. we occassionally do very odd things just for laughs. probably why we're dating each other... no one else would date us.

please click on this to read it bigger. its is FULL OF WIN. i love this. this is the kind of passive note i'd leave someone.

what are you loving this week?!

holy absentee batman!

so sorry for the whole 'not blogging' thing.. i suppose the end of the year brought a serious case of laziness... well, not so much laziness as just being a busy busy bee. oops, i should start off by saying HAPPY NEW YEAR! hello 2010! you're looking mighty fine thusfar! i've been avoiding reading any of the new year resolutions in the comments of the giveaways because i want to be totally impartial when we choose one in a couple of days. ill just have mike read them aloud to me and we'll choose the best without seeing who left it. no favoritism here, ya know what i mean?! anywhoo, i'll kind of just throw in bits of what my week has consisted of.

it's been a LOT of vegan cooking with mike. fantastic! he's such a wonderful cook and i'm grateful that he actually enjoys cooking for me so that i dont have to. peep the photo below...i was definitely perched up on the counter eating a pickle sickle while he cooked. haha supervising at its finest!
the other night he cooked vegan veggie stirfry with wild rice tempeh and then brown rice. we also had vegan spring rolls. mmmm. it was SERIOUSLY like the best thing i've ever put in my mouth. no lies. im guilty of not liking to try new things but this was worth it.

c'mon... who WOULDN'T eat that? okay okay.. i digress. we've been tinkering around with new yummy foods to make and i can already tell that being vegan with mike is definitely going to make things a LOT easier. win! we' ve been keeping up with our tradition of waking up late, eating lunch at roughly 3:30 or 4pm and then coming home after errands, ginormous bubble baths, cooking dinner at 10pm and then crashing in bed and watching a movie. it's fool proof and i love it. the other night we watched like 3 episodes of Ace Of Cakes while laying in bed. I definitely made my love for that show contagious. he's now definitely a fan!

the past 2 nights we've made yummy veggie burgers and all that jazz. we had a very very very late lunch at blue coast burrito the other day after running errands in columbia and nashville so we decided to make it a full on date night. we ate, got ice cream before his vegan-ness became official today, and headed over to the movie theater to see Did You Hear About The Morgans?... well, we FINALLY got in the theater and it was CRAMMMMMED full of people. seriously. you could barely move. so we bailed and said we'd do that another night. instead we drove over to walgreen's to the redbox to rent Funny People but instead of just getting the movie and going home, we sat in the parking lot, in the car, and had an intense 1.5 hour conversation about our pasts and what it was like when we dated each other the first time around. Then we went home, cooked, and definitely just sat and talked for 2 or 3 more hours... never even watchign the movie. i love when you can have indepth conversations like that.

i feel so incredibly blessed to be with someone so amazing and i'm so so so grateful for him.

yesterday we took it fairly easy, grabbed lunch at genghis grill and just hung around for a bit. i had to leave for work at 7pm so we didnt get to spend new years together. kind of a bummer but i know nothing that silly and trivial will really play a huge part in our relationship. he had fun at a mutual friend's house party deal and i worked from 8pm til 2am. i really really did NOT want to go to work but i'm so glad i did. i made bank. it was really needed, too. we were so so so incredibly slammed so it was good. i'm not sure if any of you know how strange it is to be a bartender on new years eve with several hundred people in your bar and to be the only person there that abstains from any alcohol consumption... but its definitely interesting haha my job is DEFINITELY easier if you're under the influence of said alcohol, however i really enjoy not partaking in that so it all works out. i have to work again tonight and tomorrow so hopefully 3 nights of bringing home lots of cash monieeezzz. we'll see, i reckon!

it was awesome waking up to someone on the new year that i adore. and i've really been racking my brain for my ~new years resolutions. [honestly, i'm just like everyone else in the world... aka i'm really really bad at keeping them.. but i try to make them more tangible so here they are...]

my 2010 resolutions:
  • continue to be completely & totally open minded to what the future has in store for me.
  • absolutely BUST BALLS to rock my 2nd internship at BUST mag in NYC this summer.
  • save save save! starting this weekend, $500 a week into my savings. NO. EXCEPTIONS.
  • keep up with my blog regularly
  • practice what i preach [read: continue to be optimistic, work on my self-esteem and while its okay to be my own worst critic, i also need to learn to be my own biggest fan.]
  • continue to keep up with my moleskine on the daily. [it has seriously been one of the biggest AWESOME factors in my life. i swear by it. y'all need one.]
  • continue on my healthy stint [read: stay vegan, continue to abstain from any drugs or alcohol, continue to kick that soda habit, etc]
the reason i start many of these with "continue" is because i dont see the new year as being a "fresh start" like some people... i dont wait until the "end of a year" to kick nasty habits. the measurement of time is completely man-made and the universe has no concept of this. it's foolish to say "2009 was such a crappy year" and try to place all blame on the cosmic universe to what happened to you, or the habits you acquired, etc.. thats just silly! 2010 is not a tangible thing.. it's merely something that exists in our minds. now, its perfectly fine to try and use this as a tool to help trick/train yourself to do something, but don't rely on this measure of time as though it's a life line. anyway, sorry, that was my little sch-peal about it all. hope that wasn't offensive to anyone! i just get a little peeved when people rely on something like that to change their ways. :)

i can't wait to read all of your resolutions! post yours in a comment on the post prior to this so you can be eligible to win the awesome goody package that i've rounded up!

happy new year, again, all of you! and a huge huge HELLO to my new followers! if we haven't spoken, please introduce yourself in the comments or shoot me an email! i love getting messages from y'all! [kaelahbee at gmail dot com!]

happy 2010! xo
